Former President Donald Trump is under "criminal investigation" for illegally holding White House records which contained some of America's most closely held secrets, according to the Department of Justice.
The department released the affidavit that underpinned the FBI's unprecedented search of Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on August 8 after US media outlets sued for it to be made public.
During the search, agents seized 11 sets of classified records - some of which were labeled "Top Secret" - meaning they could pose a grave threat to national security if exposed.
