Heavenly island spots you can fly to direct from Edinburgh Airport

As the last of the Covid restrictions finally end, a sun holiday is on the minds of many Scots.

And those travelling from Edinburgh Airport are spoiled for choice, the Scottish Daily Express reports.

There are great destinations just a few hours away from Scotland, from sun soaked beaches to historic towns.

The airport has selected these 14 spots as being ideal for the summer holidays. Which one is on your favourite?

Santorini

The stunning Greek island of Santorini is located in the Aegean Sea and is known for its stunning scenery.

From beautiful beaches to clifftop villages, this volcanic island truly seems like paradise on Earth.

Corfu

Another Greek island, this time in the Ionian Sea, Corfu is steeped in history and is home to Greek ruins, medieval castles and a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Corfu has something for everyone. It is known as a cultural hotspot but if it's something a bit more lively you are after, Kavos on the south of the island is known for its boisterous nightlife.

Fuerteventura

Miles and miles of stunning white sand has ensured this Canary Island is no longer the hidden gem it once was - but it still offers a more relaxed atmosphere than its better known siblings.

It is also massively popular with those looking to enjoy outdoors sports during their holiday with the waters of the Atlantic offering a perfect place for surfing and windsurfing.

Gran Canaria

Another Canary Island and another hotspot for water sports.

There are also 82 golden beaches to choose from and plenty for families and couples to enjoy alike.

Ibiza

Probably best known for its nightlife, there is much more to Ibiza than partying.

The Balearic island in the Med also has a rich history and the Old Town offers stunning strolls.

Large portions of the island are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and authorities have been keen to promote Ibiza as a more family-friendly destination.

Madeira

A regular winner of 'best island' awards, Madeira well deserves its 'pearl of the Atlantic' title.

Another island boasting UNESCO World Heritage sites, Madeira is also known for its wine, flora and fauna and black volcanic beaches.

Kos

One of Greece’s Dodecanese islands, Kos is known for its sandy beaches and ancient ruins.

With a history dating back thousands of years, Kos has pretty much everything you need from a holiday, whether it is sipping a cocktail or visiting historical sites.

Lanzarote

A staple of many Scots summer holidays, Lanzarote retains a charm all of its own.

A visit to the Timanfaya National Park is not to be missed, and there are plenty of beaches to enjoy the warm weather, which like the rest of the Canary islands, is on offer almost all year round.

Malta

Malta's prime location in the Mediterranean has seen it ruled by a host of powers, including the British and it remains a member of the Commonwealth.

Capital Valetta boasts incredible architecture and cobbled streets while the nation has three UNESCO World heritage sites.

Menorca

The least known of the Balearics but well worth a visit.

Its endless beaches and low-key atmosphere make this the perfect family break.

Rhodes

Homes to one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, Rhodes is now one of Europe's most popular tourist destinations.

The Island of the Sun is an apt nickname for this haven. It also has a rich tradition in food.

Tenerife

The largest of the Canary Island but also one of the most charming.
