Heatwaves likely caused 263 more deaths in London, scientists estimate - as soaring temperatures trigger week-long health alert

Summer heatwaves caused the deaths of 263 Londoners, according to stark new estimates - as a week-long hot weather health alert for the capital kicks in.

About 171 of these excess deaths were added by climate change, which made temperatures in the capital nearly 4C higher than they would have been, according to scientists at Imperial College London and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM).
