The Sydney Thunder have a golden chance to secure just their second BBL win of the season after being set a target of 122 by the Brisbane Heat on Tuesday.
The Heat finished their innings 6-121 and struggled to make runs at the Sydney Showground thanks to the economical Thunder bowlers, headlined by Chris Green (2-14).
Green claimed the game's opening wicket when Max Bryant scooped him behind the wicket and into the hands of Usman Qadir for one.
His opening partner Colin Munro had better luck, building a solid innings of 43, even if his Heat teammates couldn't quite get into the swing of things with him.
Matt Renshaw (nine) and Sam Billings (one) both went cheaply, with the latter nicking off on just his fourth ball.
Munro found some joy when he was joined at the crease by Jimmy Peirson (27) but there was some concern when he was hit on the helmet by a 132kmh pacer from Nathan McAndrew in the 11th over.
Peirson stayed down to receive treatment but after thankfully returning to action nicked Qadir into the hands of wicketkeeper Matt Gilkes towards the end of the 15th over.
The Heat were 4-78 at that point but couldn't get the scoreboard ticking over with Daniel Sams taking Munro's wicket and dismissing Test hopeful Michael Neser for a golden duck with back-to-back balls.
Xavier Bartlett (28no) entered the fray and he was able to pick up some valuable boundaries off Sams and Qadir to improve the Heat's chances of defending their total.
