Jimmy Butler has never been one to lack confidence, and even with the Damian Lillard trade not panning out for the Heat, he remains as confident as ever heading into the 2023-24 NBA season. During an interview with NBA TV’s Taylor Rooks, Butler was asked a broad range of questions, but one response jumped out of the bunch.
Rooks cited to Butler the fact that he called himself “the best basketball player in the world” last season when the two spoke during the NBA Finals. And her question was direct and blunt: “Does that thought still hold true?”
“Damn right it do,” Butler said.
The confidence from Butler never wavers, and it’s what makes him such a beloved player by many. But Miami’s star was quick to note that while he believes he is the best player in the world, he’s extremely grateful to have a great group of teammates as well.
“Luckily, this is a team game. And I realize that I need my teammates to win, and I’ll always rely on my teammates and I’ll always be grateful for my teammates and I’ll always use my teammates to make sure we win games. But as far as being the best basketball player in the world goes? One-on-one? I’m taking my chances,” Butler stated.
