A ‘celebrity cat’ which has become an internet sensation for being chauffeured across London in a bike basket was thrown to the ground during a collision with a moped.
Sigrid, a long-haired Norwegian Forest cat, has attracted 370,000 followers across social media along with her owner as ‘Travis and Sigrid’.
On Monday, her owner Travis Nelson was riding along Clerkenwell Road in Farringdon at 1.40pm on Monday when a moped hit the handles of his bike, causing Sigrid to be thrown to the ground.
In the video, which has been viewed over 11 million times, Mr Nelson is seen picking up Sigrid before a plain-clothed police officer approached him.
Mr Nelson, who usually wears a helmet, suffered cuts and bruises to his knee and shoulder. Sigrid was placed back into the basket and didn’t suffer any injuries.
Writing on X, Mr Nelson said: “Impatient, close-passing moped driver knocked us off our bike today.
“Fortunately the police (?) were right behind us, so they could scold me for not wearing a helmet and then leave. First time off my bike since 2007.
“Sigrid is fine; my knee is messed up, can’t ride for a bit.”
The Met confirmed the collision but said that neither party wanted to report it.
The police also confirmed that an unmarked car passing the scene, stopped and road safety advice was given to both parties.
Nelson told The Independent that, following the incident, people had been reporting him to the RSPCA, as well as sending him death threats.
He added that the collision would not stop him cycling with his cat “at all,” saying: “If I don’t go out, Sigrid will be at the door yelling, wanting to go out. She will climb on the bike and meow.”
