Hearts starlet Ewan Simpson 'set to join' Steven Gerrard's Aston Villa for six-figure fee

Hearts starlet Ewan Simpson is set for a move to Aston Villa, according to reports.

The English Premier League side are ready to complete the signing of the highly-rated teen for £250,000 when he turns 16, say the Scottish Sun.

Former Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has already set his sights on Ibrox youngster Rory Wilson.

And Simpson - who has been a star for the Jambos' Under-18s side - could join him at the EPL side.

The Hearts kid has been attracting transfer interest from a number of clubs across the UK

But it is reported that Villa have moved first and will complete the capture later this summer after coming to a financial agreement with the capital club.

Kerr Smith made the move from Dundee United in a similar deal earlier this year with Gerrard turning his attention to the rising stars of Scottish football with the ex-Rangers gaffer well aware of the level of talent emerging within SPFL clubs' youth systems.

Meanwhile, Wilson has confirmed he is leaving Rangers and will 'probably be going down south'.

The youngster admits it is time for change and to go challenge himself at the next level.

He said: "Rangers have been brilliant for me. There's no getting away from that.

"But it's time to move on and get to the next level.

"I'd like to thank Rangers for everything they have done for me because it's been great for me over the last eight years, but it's time to leave.

"I'll probably be going down south.

"We'll wait and see what happens in the next couple of weeks. Everything will be sorted very soon.

"At Rangers, all the coaches have been fantastic for me. I can't thank them enough for all their help.

"I want to go down south and try and prove myself and become a top player and that's what I am going to do."
