Hearts rescheduled league fixture chance as Premier Sports Cup exit provides early opportunity

Hearts will have to wait until at minimum next month to squeeze in their rescheduled match with St Mirren - and their Premier Sports Cup exit could provide an early opportunity.

The Jambos face a congested and hectic schedule with games coming thick and fast. They were due to return to league action tomorrow with a showdown with the Paisley Buddies, but that game, along with the full fixture card up and down the leagues in the SPFL this weekend was postponed as a mark of respect following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The week off will give Robbie Neilson’s side extra preparation time ahead of their Europa Conference League clash with RFS Riga in Latvia, before they return to league action next Sunday away to Motherwell.

The SPFL fixtures have yet to be rescheduled but one opportunity to play the game could come during the Premier Sports Cup week with both Hearts and St Mirren out of the tournament.

Those ties are set to go ahead on Tuesday, October 18 and Wednesday October 19 which is the next midweek where Hearts will get a breather. Euro showdowns against Fiorentina at Tynecastle and then Florence are sandwiched in between league action against Rangers and an international break.

Hearts crashed out of the competition last month after defeat to Kilmarnock at Tynecastle. Opponents St Mirren found themselves out the tournament before the knock-out rounds after struggling to get past a group containing Arbroath and Airdrie.
