Hearts join transfer hunt for Newcastle United starlet as Eddie Howe 'really impressed' by talent

Elliot Anderson is reportedly a transfer target for Hearts this summer - and any potential move would come after praise from Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe.

The Toon talent and Scotland U21s international is highly-rated by the English Premier League side. He was instrumental for Bristol Rovers as they were promoted to League One last season, scoring eight times with five assists from midfield. Football Scotland reports Hearts want him to bolster their ranks ahead of a season that will include European group stage football alongside Premiership action.

Anderson featured in a 3-0 Newcastle friendly win over 1860 Munich and Howe was left impressed by the supposed Jambos target. He told the Chronicle : "I think that's probably been the biggest development. He looks like he has the ability now to go box to box, to compete not just in possession, but out of possession with duels. I thought he pressed well during the first half.

"I think we've seen a real growth in his endurance levels. He's come back with a real enthusiasm and desire to do well, and show us how much he's progressed since his loan spell.

"I thought he was probably the biggest bright spark we had during that first half, which was a difficult one for us. I've been really impressed by him.

‘"He's quite quiet within the group but is a very steely, determined lad who wants to do well. We really like him."

Hearts are still looking to do business this summer after the captures of Lewis Neilson, Alan Forrest, Kye Rowles, Alex Cochrane and Jorge Grant.
