American striker JJ Williams has joined Hearts as their 11th summer signing.

The 28-year-old has agreed to a two-year contract, with the deal pending international clearance and Scottish FA approval.

Williams, who is 6ft 4in, will take the No.9 shirt previously worn by Lawrence Shankland.

In a statement, the club described Williams as a "towering striker," adding: "Powerful and hard-working, JJ combines physical presence with technical ability, posing a threat inside the opposition’s box, while also being adept at bringing his teammates into play deep inside the final third."

Williams, who arrived in Edinburgh over the weekend, is set to make his debut on Saturday when St Johnstone visit Tynecastle Park in the Scottish Premiership.

He joins from USL Championship side Rhode Island, where he scored 30 goals in 79 appearances and provided 13 assists over three years.

He has netted double figures in four of the last five seasons, including an impressive campaign with the Tampa Bay Rowdies, where he combined for 24 goals and assists.

Williams began his career with MLS side Columbus Crew, making nine appearances, and had a short stint with Atlanta United.

The majority of his career has been spent in the American second tier with Birmingham Legion, FC Tulsa, and Phoenix Rising among his other clubs.

Hearts were keen to add a striker before the transfer window closes and Williams fits the profile the club has been searching for.

He was described to Hearts Standard as "big, good in the air, quick, and most importantly, a CF who plays high and central and gets in the box, always making himself a target. Pretty good finisher too."

Williams will not be the last addition before the transfer window closes next Thursday.

Hearts are working on a deal to bring Aron Benjaminsen to the club from Faroe Islands side Vikingur.

The highly-rated 18-year-old winger is expected to become the 12th summer signing, with Tynecastle officials making progress on the transfer.

In 25 appearances, he has scored nine goals and provided assists.

Benjaminsen, a Faroese under-21 international, is expected to feature for Vikingur in their league clash with HB Torshavn on Friday.
