Heartbroken Nottingham family appeal to find brother who went swimming but hasn't come home

The heartbroken sister of man who has been missing for more than a week has appealed for public help to find him. Marlena Karpinska, 39, has asked for people to look out for her 34-year-old brother Adrian Karpinski.

He was last seen at the Victoria Embankment, near the Wilford Toll Bridge on the banks of the River Trent, between West Bridgford and The Meadows, at around 6pm on Thursday, March 24. Specialist underwater police search teams have been searching the river in the investigation to locate Mr Karpinski.

Police are handing out missing person posters in the area as part of their ongoing enquiries. And Mr Karpinski's sister said his family were heartbroken and that "not knowing was the worst part" in his disappearance.

"We are heartbroken at the moment because we have no information at all, all we know he was swimming that day but nothing has been found. We do not know if something has happened to him," said Ms Karpinska, who explained she lived with her brother in Clifton.

"He was seen on March 24, Thursday; he had a bag and red bike. Nobody has seen anything and the [CCTV] cameras have not either. The worst part is not knowing where to look or what has happened to him.

"We just want him to come home. People need to come forward and help, police divers covered the area that he was and found nothing but someone must know something."

Mr Karpinski worked at a Boots factory with his sister for 12 years before moving to a different job in manufacturing last year. His sister added that Mr Karpinski was single with no children, saying he tended to spend a lot of his time with friends in The Meadows where some of his family members also live.

"He was independent and had a good job. I am sure something has happened to him because I do not believe he would have wanted to go missing," he said.

"He spends a lot of time with his friends, drinking beer and having fun. He is a very open person and he would talk to anyone, he is very friendly."

Nottinghamshire Police say they have "real concerns" for the welfare of Mr Karpinski after he was reported missing from The Meadows area of Nottingham on March 26. Speaking previously, Detective Chief Inspector Richard Bull, of Nottinghamshire Police, said; “Our officers have real concerns for Adrian since he was reported missing to us.

"We have been in close contact with Adrian’s family to support them and to ensure they are aware of our activity during what must be a heart-breaking and anxious time. I would urge anyone with any information about Adrian – no matter how insignificant they think it may seem – to contact Nottinghamshire Police as soon as possible.”

Mr Karpinski is described as being 5ft 11ins tall, of slim build, with short mousey brown hair. He was wearing a black coat, black joggers and white trainers. He was carrying a red Nike backpack.

Officers are also asking if anyone has seen his red Trek mountain bike. Anyone with information is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident 562 of March 26.
