The devastated mum of a teenager who took his life had issued a powerful message to other men and young people.
Jakub Halani was killed instantly after being struck by a train at Eccles railway station in Greater Manchester on the night of February 2.
The talented 19-year-old musician had been up all night "making beats" when he travelled to the station from his Salford home, sending his friend a tragic final Snapchat of pictures of the pair saying, "love you brother".
Kataryzna Halani told an inquest into his death that her son had a bright future ahead of him, and now has urged young people - particularly men and boys - to open up about their struggles.
"If there is one message to come out of this, I want it to be please, please talk," she said in a moving statement after a coroner ruled a verdict of suicide in Jakub's death on Monday.
Despite a referral to CAMHS in 2018 after attempts at self harm and suicidal thoughts, the inquest heard Jakub had not had any involvement with mental health services since early 2019, Manchester Evening News reports.
Ms Halani said her son's death had come as a "complete shock", saying she had "no idea" he had been struggling in spite of their close mother and son relationship.
"I didn't think it was a sign of anything. I thought he was struggling to express his emotions and I encouraged him to talk to me," Kataryzna said. "Nothing was taboo in our house."
She added: "He was a very private person, but also sometimes he would come and sit on the sofa and talk to me for two hours," Katarzyna said.
"He was very successful, and he had a great group of friends. He was very close to his sister."
Kataryzna said she spoke to Jakub at around 5pm on the night of his death, before he took a taxi to the station shortly before 11pm.
He sent his friend, Jacob Bailey, the heartfelt message and pictures, which the pal later told a coroner he had thought "unusual" but not concerning.
CCTV captured Jakub sending the messages, before he made what appeared to be a "deliberate" act as a train which wasn't due to stop passed through the station.
Driver Paul Graves told the hearing at Bolton coroners court: "I saw a male come out of the shadows. He jumped in front of the train. It was all over in seconds."
Jakub was tragically pronounced dead at the scene, while later toxicology reports showed no signs of alcohol or drugs in their system.
In Kataryzna's statement, she described him as "such a lovely boy" who was "always conscious of other people’s needs and feelings", and "dedicated to his love of music".
"We are struggling to accept that he chose this action, however we will always continue to find solace in his music and tunes and the memories left behind along with kindness and love he spread," she said.
"He was someone who took pride in having loyal friends and being loyal to them himself. Someone, who took pride in the way he presented himself. He often felt that he had the ability to sense others and their intentions.
"He wouldn’t fake anything. He wouldn’t invest himself in any relationship that didn’t feel right. He was a lad’s lad.
"He stood by his word. He didn’t like to be the centre of attention; he was extremely humble and polite.
"To ask for help, I feel, was a weakness in his view, while to offer help and being helpful was always his strength. He loved to laugh and have a good time."
Suicide remains the biggest killer of people under 35, and the biggest killer of men under 50 in England and Wales, according to the NHS.
