Heartbroken family pay tribute to 'gorgeous' girl as teenager who died after Donegal crash named

Tributes are pouring in for a 17-year-old girl who died following a road collision in Co Donegal last week.

Charlotte Kelly, from Letterkenny, was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after the single-vehicle crash in Carraig Airt at 9.15pm on Sunday, May 1.

Gardai confirmed that she had sadly passed away in Beaumont Hospital on Monday.

The teenager is being remembered as "a beautiful young girl taken long before her time", with tributes pouring in from family, friends and neighbours.

One family member said: "Charlotte Kelly we love you, forever 17 our gorgeous girl."

Another wrote: "Forever in our hearts. Our white angel Charlotte Kelly. Love you lots."

Charlotte's boyfriend posted a picture of the couple, saying: "My guardian angel".

Members of the local community and friends of the family have also been leaving heartfelt condolences following the tragic news.

The Colm McDaid social media account that features Letterkenny news wrote: "Late yesterday evening the sad news filtered through from Dublin that young Charlotte Kelly aged 17 had sadly passed away.

"To her father William Kelly New and her mother Kathleen and her brothers and sisters and extended family, can I take this opportunity to pass on our sincerest condolences from the Wider Oldtown Community, and everyone on this page.

"A beautiful young girl taken long before her time, now surrounded by her loving family members that have gone before her.

"This is a heartbreaking time for the Kelly family so I would ask you all to continue to keep them in your thoughts and prayers over the days, weeks and months ahead.

"To her young friends remember her in those happy times you had although short and always speak her name with a smile.

"I would like to thank everyone for your beautiful comments, your prayers and for all the support the family has been shown since young Charlotte had her accident, it shows what a community can do to comfort those in their time of need, and we as a community have been here before and have shown how close of a community we can be.

"The Kelly family need us still, they have a tough few days ahead. So I ask you once again to think on them today, light a candle and say a little prayer for them, and to remember the beautiful young girl taken before her time. Angel Charlotte you are forever 17."

While one person said: "Rest in peace beautiful Charlotte Kelly gone but never forgotten forever 17 u will be sadly missed."

A second said: "God love her so young so sorry to hear this sad news its just heartbreaking rest in peace thinking of you all at this sad time."

A third commented: "So sorry for your loss. Thinking and praying for you all. She was one in million. May her and Julia watch over you all give you the strength you need xx."

Someone else said: "Sorry for your loss what Beautiful looking girl so sad news thinking of you all."

Another wrote: "So sorry to hear this! A Beautiful young life taken so soon! God rest her soul! R.I.P."

And one added: "So deeply saddened to hear such tragic news, thinking on all Charlotte's family and friends at this heartbreaking time."

Charlotte's funeral details will be announced in due course.

Gardai are continuing to appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the road collision on May 1 to contact them.
