The heartbroken family of an innocent man who was murdered after a car deliberately ploughed into him five years ago has suffered further tragedy.
Stephen Lynch, 31, was mowed down by a car in the Brookview Close estate in Tallaght, south Dublin on April 13, 2017.
Last Tuesday, his grieving father Danny Lynch died suddenly at St James’s Hospital.
Shamrock Rovers fan Danny has been described by friends as “everybody’s friend”, and “a warm, kind, gentle soul”.
Danny’s grieving wife Vera – mum to Stephen – has now said she hopes Danny will take care of Stephen in heaven.
She wrote on Facebook: “It’s just so hard without you. At least your da can mind you now.
“Mind your da in heaven.”
Investigators believe that Stephen, who was not involved in criminality, was murdered because he asked the occupants of a Ford Focus to slow down as children were playing nearby.
Both the driver and passenger fled and were never identified.
