Parents of two young daughters who both have a life-limiting brain disorder have been told only one of them can undergo treatment. Ally Wallace and Jake Shaw's daughters Nala, two, and Teddi, 11 months, suffer from a genetic disease which affects the 'white matter' of the brain and causes the loss of their physical and mental skills.
Ally, 32, and Jake, 29, from Northumberland, are both carriers of the same faulty genes and there was a one in four chance of them passing it on to their children. The disease affects the 'white matter' of the brain and causes the loss of their physical and mental skills, reports Chronicle Live.
Teddi was tested for Metachromatic Leukodystrophy (MLD) after Nala was found to have the disease earlier this month. As Teddi's condition is not at an advanced stage, she is able to undergo life-saving gene therapy treatment in Manchester next month. However, Nala is unable to receive treatment for the condition as her brain has deteriorated too far already. She will continue to lose all her functions and is not expected to live beyond childhood.
