Heartbreaking images have been shared of a puppy found in "very poor" condition roaming in a Scots street.
The male pup is thought to be just five months old and Scotland's leading animal welfare charity is now appealing for information as to how he ended up to be in such a bad state.
Shocking images show the puppy's hip bone sticking out and a dishevelled coat that the SSPCA described as being extremely "dirty".
The beagle cross Jack Russell terrier was found straying near Naval Place in Cowdenbeath, Fife, around 8pm on March 7.
Even after those looking after him gave him a bath, his coat still gave off a disgusting smell.
Scottish SPCA inspector Nicola Liddell, said: “The dog was a male, tri-colour beagle cross Jack Russell terrier type pup. We estimate him to only be around five months old.
“He was found at approximately 8pm on the evening of Monday 7 March near Natal Place.
“He is in very poor body condition. His coat was very dirty with a strong, unpleasant aroma emanating from him even after he had been bathed.
“We’re keen to find out how the dog came to be in the area in such a bad state.
