Heartbreak as dead cat in zipped up bag dumped in Greater Manchester canal

A dead cat has been found inside a zip-up bag, dumped in a Greater Manchester canal. Heartbreaking images shared by the RSPCA show the dirty, beige holdall bag which the cat had been found inside, along with its body.

The animal is described by the RSPCA as a 'black and white female Oriental-type cat' that was found in a poor condition. She was found on Monday (May 8) in the Ashton Canal, near to Portland Place in Ashton-under-Lyne, Tameside.

It is not known if the cat was already dead when she was dumped, or if she drowned in the canal. The RSPCA says her jaw had a piece of metal inside, which had not been inserted by a vet.
