Heart-stopping moment motorbike yob caught running red light and pulling wheelie on Scots street

This is the heart-stopping moment a motorcyclist is caught running a red light and pulling a wheelie on a street in Edinburgh.

The yob was caught on dashcam footage pulling off the reckless stunt near the Grange and Marchmont neighbourhoods at around 4.15pm on Sunday, October 16. The lout was seen overtaking vehicles, speeding through a red light and racing down the street pulling wheelies into the distance.

As reported by Edinburgh Live, the incident is the latest in a string of young, reckless motorcyclists being caught on camera acting dangerously in the capital. This year, multiple reckless stunts involving off-road motorcycle gangs and young drivers were reported to police and captured on film.

In June, one biker was seen carrying a child at the front of an off-road bike while driving at dangerous speeds in Sighthill Park. In July, an Edinburgh man described the city as "the wild west" after capturing a video of multiple off-road bikers running red lights and wreaking havoc along on Lanark Road.

Yobs were seen driving recklessly and pulling stunts along the city’s busy Royal Mile later in August. Footage of the dangerous incidents later emerged on the TikTok app. In Edinburgh’s Niddrie, police previously said the anti-social use of motorcycles was worsening in the residential community.

The reckless yobs typically wear black clothing and wear black face coverings to protect their identity.

Superintendent Sam Ainslie previously said: “We have received a number of reports relating to the anti-social and reckless use of off-road motorcycles across the city.

“This behaviour will not be tolerated, and working with partners, including Road Policing colleagues, we have coordinated plans in place to proactively prevent and address these concerns, including deploying Edinburgh Division’s very own Operation Orbit officers.

“Trained in the use of off-road motorbikes, these officers have and will continue to patrol hot-spot areas to identify offenders, prevent and deter further incidents and provide community reassurance."

She continued: “Road safety is one of Edinburgh Division’s top priorities, and notwithstanding the risk these reckless individuals pose to their own safety, their behaviours cause significant risk to pedestrians and other road users, and I wish to reassure the public that offenders will be dealt with robustly.

“To allow us to target our patrols effectively, I would encourage communities to report incidents via 101, and should anyone have information as to the identity of those placing communities at risk, this can be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
