Cops: Cardiac condition, hypoxia led to KK death
Kolkata: Singer KK had an underlying heart condition that was aggravated by lack of oxygen on Tuesday evening, which led to a fatal cardiac arrest, the final post-mortem report has stated.
"Considering the macroscopical findings, it is suggested that death occurred following the effects of hypoxia following Acute Cardiogenic Pulmonary Oedema, caused due to pathological condition of heart, associated with subarachnoid haemorrhage. The final opinion will be given after receipt of reports from the state FSL and department of pathology," the report said.
After receiving the final prime post-mortem report on Saturday, an officer remarked it had validated the initial findings of autopsy surgeons: KK had a fatty layer around the heart that had turned white and the valves were stiff when the heart was opened. "Sub-pericardial fat markedly increased and further extended in finger-like projections into the myocardium at places and excised at places... Atheromatous deposits were seen at the anterior descending branch of the left coronary artery at places. Musculature surrounding the apex of the heart was also pale in comparison to other parts of the heart. Papillary muscles appeared flattened in appearance," the report added.
The cops on Saturday also spoke to several volunteers who managed the crowd at Nazrul Mancha on Tuesday evening on behalf of the college students' union. There were allegations of over-crowding that had rendered the air-conditioning ineffective and the place stuffy. KK, who was seen sweating profusely during the show, collapsed and died an hour after the show ended.
Police sources said they scanned the footage to reconstruct what took place between 5.30pm and 10.30pm, both inside Nazrul Mancha and at the gates. "It's clear extra passes were issued and the crowd was more than the seating capacity. But the situation didn't go out of hand and the skirmishes reported were at the gates. Even these were between 6.20pm and 6.45pm, 20 minutes before KK took the stage," said a police source.
Cops said several more volunteers have now been summoned. "Efforts are on to identify the person who used the fire extinguisher," said a source.
"He was seen walking straight to the green room. No one mobbed him, unlike claims from some junior artists who claimed he had refused to enter till the organizers cleared the area near the stage," said an officer. Similarly, unlike the popular claim, KK had not sung his biggest hit - 'Pal' - on May 31. "He sang it on May 30. ence the footage of him singing 'Pal' is an old one," said an officer.
