Two of Minnesota's largest nonprofit health systems, HealthPartners and Essentia Health, plan to combine into a 22-hospital organization serving Minnesota, Wisconsin, and North Dakota. The deal was announced September 29 and is set to take effect January 1, 2027, if it clears state and federal reviews, Becker's Hospital Review reported.
The same day, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison opened a public review and invited patients, workers, and communities to share their views. "Proposed health care consolidation requires close scrutiny," Ellison said, according to CBS Minnesota.
