If you buy your health insurance through the Affordable Care Act Marketplace, there’s an important date approaching. Open enrollment for 2027 coverage begins November 1, 2026, and waiting until the last minute to gather your information could make the process more stressful than necessary.

According to HealthCare.gov, consumers using the federal Marketplace can begin applying for new coverage, renewing existing plans, or changing their insurance on November 1. Those who want coverage beginning January 1, 2027, generally need to enroll by December 15, while the federal enrollment period currently runs through January 15. However, selecting a plan involves more than comparing monthly premiums. Your household income, tax information, existing coverage, and family circumstances can all affect eligibility and financial assistance.
