Health tech firm Diagnexia expands Exeter hub, creating 30 jobs

A health tech firm has expanded its Devon headquarters, creating 30 jobs.

Diagnexia provides a pathology diagnostics platform, which is designed to help connect hospitals and laboratories to an international network of specialist clinicians. The company, which is owned by Irish software group Deciphex, has tripled capacity at its Exeter Science Park base, with an official launch attended by local healthcare professionals, and business leaders.

Diagnexia said the move would enable the firm to expand its workforce, after it reported a 450% growth in demand for its services since December.

Chief executive Dr. Donal O'Shea said: "We are delighted to expand our presence in Exeter, a city that has consistently demonstrated its commitment to innovation and growth in the healthcare sector. Our new facility at Exeter Science Park will enable us to better serve our clients across the UK and beyond, while also providing valuable employment opportunities in the local community."

The company’s chief medical officer Professor Runjan Chetty added: "The expansion of our Exeter facility is an exciting milestone for Diagnexia, as it enables us to further advance our mission of improving patient care through state-of-the-art digital pathology solutions. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with local healthcare professionals and organisations, such as Exeter Science Park, to drive innovation in the field."

Deciphex’s Exeter facility is the central hub for the digitisation and upload of all biopsies to the Diagnexia platform. The company said the expansion would help it to cut delays in disease diagnosis. At the launch event, Steve Blunden, head of histopathology at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust, said the investment was testament to the South West’s “growing reputation” as a hub for innovation and excellence in healthcare.

Sally Basker, chief executive of Exeter Science Park, commented: “We are very pleased that Diagnexia has chosen to join our emerging health and life sciences cluster at Exeter Science Park. We help innovative science-based companies to deliver extraordinary growth and so we are excited to see 450% growth opportunities opening up for Diagnexia with the promise of high value jobs, enhanced productivity and economic growth. We look forward to helping them on their journey.”
