An investigation is under way after a man died shortly after being arrested in central Victoria, with officers taken to hospital as a precaution.
The 27-year-old became unwell and unresponsive shortly after being arrested in Kyneton on Tuesday afternoon, Victoria Police said.
Officers performed CPR and called for medical assistance but he could not be saved.
In a statement, the force said it appeared the man may have ingested some sort of substance and five officers who were present during the arrest were taken to hospital as a precaution.
No further information has been released about the substance or impact to officers.
Homicide squad detectives and police from the Professional Standards Command are probing what happened, which Victoria Police said is standard practice when a person dies in custody.
