Britain set for hottest summer on record amid health warnings

The Met Office has announced that this summer is set to be the UK’s hottest since records began.
Only average conditions are needed for the remainder of August to surpass the record, which was only set in 2025.
The Met Office has issued a rare amber warning for extreme heat as a fifth heatwave looms, with the risk of temperatures reaching 38C; the warning is in place from 9am to midnight on Thursday.
Separate heat health alerts issued by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) are in place across England until Friday evening.
Almost three-quarters of England is now in drought, with 45 million people affected.
