Headliners Aqua pull out of 90s pop show at Manchester's AO Arena due to illness

Barbie Girl stars Aqua have pulled out of a headline slot at a 90s pop show at Manchester's AO Arena due to illness. The Europop act were due to top the bill at tonight's (Saturday) 90s Baby Pop show.

But in a statement the band say they're unable to perform after lead singer fell ill and lost her voice. More than 20 acts including Five, Las Ketchup, Atomic Kitten's Liz and Natasha, Damage, Gareth Gates, S Club Allstars and Liberty X are set to perform tonight's nostalgia fest.

A statement on Aqua's Instagram page said: "It's a huge disappointment that we have to cancel tonight's performance in Manchester due to illness. Unfortunately Lene has lost her voice and on doctor's orders has been told to rest in order not to damage her voice further and fully recover.

"We sincerely apologise to the fans, the other acts and all the partners involved in tonight's show, but the health of Lene is first priority at this point. We're so very sorry, we hope for your understanding and we hope to get back to Manchester very soon."

The Arena tweeted: "We are gutted to share the news that Lene the lead singer of Aqua has picked up an illness and lost her voice, meaning Aqua will no longer be able to perform at todays 90’s Baby POP show.

"The show must go on, and we are excited to see our 21 other artists on the bill perform! Doors open at 4pm, with the first artist now on stage slightly later at 5pm."
