He joined the Rockliffe team as Chef de Partie in 2016 following a move to the North East in 2013 and was recently promoted to head chef working under resort executive chef Martin Horsley.
The series is being presented by Andi Oliver with a new judging line-up of Michelin starred, GBM double banquet winner, Tom Kerridge; restaurateur Nisha Katona, and comedian and food podcast presenter Ed Gamble.
This year’s theme celebrates 100 years of British Broadcasting.
Steven said: "I have been watching and admiring the talent on the series since it first aired so I was thrilled to appear in the 2022 season alongside other top home-grown chefs.
"My passion for food has been present since an early age, and this dedication has developed into a life-long drive to achieve my professional goals including appearing in the competition.
"I am inspired by creative, innovative culinary techniques brought by today’s new generation of chefs, the ethos of farm to fork dining, sustainable food choices, and experimenting with the illusion of food and sensory cooking techniques.
"I like simple food, done well – not overly complex or fussy – yet showcasing modern, creative culinary techniques."
A total of 32 chefs representing eight regions will compete against each other for the top prize.
The North West region heats will begin at 8pm on Tuesday February 8 and continue on Wednesday February 9 and Thursday February 10 on BBC Two.
