‘He’s quality’ - Stan Kroenke told to sign Facundo Torres as Arsenal transfer talks confirmed

Arsenal are set to hold talks with the representatives of Orlando City winger Facundo Torres in the coming days, according to various reports.

Mikel Arteta’s need for further squad depth has already become apparent this season, with Bukayo Saka becoming the latest victim to fall to injury after limping off against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

With the Gunners currently sitting at the top of the Premier League as well as their Europa League group, Arteta and technical director Edu will know that the team needs all the help it can get in order to maintain consistency after falling short just a few months ago.

The links to Torres can come as encouragement to Arsenal fans as it shows the club is being proactive and planning ahead for a potentially busy winter window.

Torres became Orlando City’s record signing back in January after moving from Uruguayan side Penarol and he certainly didn’t disappoint during his debut season. The 22-year-old winger went on to score nine goals and provide eight assists across 33 league appearances, while also netting against Arsenal during their pre-season tour of America.

Although Arsenal’s interest has resulted in a mixed reaction among supporters, the majority believe he would be a good signing. Here’s how the news went down on Twitter.

@rehnato: “He’s quality. Seen him a lot at Penarol.”

@WSHstman: “Orlando fan here. He’s the best player in the club's history.”

@CheshireCanal: “Not sure he’s the level I would pick! I don’t want to go panic/cheap January and miss out on top quality in the summer! Prefer loans with options then we have more options.”

@Leon_in_sports: “Very decent player, I enjoyed watching him play against us. He has potential. He has that Di Maria vibe, a dangerous left foot and I love how he drops back to defend. Can we afford to bring another developing player and we already have a handful of them??”

@BossThePitch: “Saw him play a couple times this past year. Head and shoulders above anyone else in the Orlando City squad. Definitely has the quality to play in the PL.”

@pjdavids25: “As an American Gooner can confirm he’s class.”

@BrianH_321: “I KNEW IT! Orlando City are my 2nd team and I can confirm this kid is good! Don’t think he’s an immediate starter but will get up to speed very fast. I knew he was showing out in the preseason match and I had a feeling Arteta noticed. This would be great!”
