HOWRAH: Nine years ago, when their father passed away, a young Achinta dropped out of school and began helping his mother with embroidery work to keep the kitchen fire burning. Elder brother, Alok, gave up his career as a weightlifter and took up odd jobs to sustain their livelihood but what he didn't give up on was the dream of turning his young brother into a champion.
The toil and tears bore fruit thousands of miles away in Birmingham on August 1, when Achinta, now 20, lifted gold in the 73kg category in the Commonwealth Games.
