Perth’s freshly re-elected lord mayor Basil Zempilas has confirmed the worst kept secret in West Australian politics – that he is bidding to be elected as a state Liberal MP.

The announcement was made in an exclusive interview given to the newspaper owned by his Channel Seven paymasters.
