Former Chief Minister and JD(S) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy on Sunday appealed to those conducting the ‘Sri Rama shobha yatras’ to take out the processions ensuring communal harmony.
“Please do not disturb the peace of other communities by taking out processions with DJ sets and deliberately stopping for 15-20 minutes in front of places of worship of other communities. This will disrupt harmony,” he said in a series of tweets.
“People from a particular community are now observing the month of fasting. I appeal to all Deputy Commissioners and police authorities to not allow people to disturb the peace of other communities in the name of shobha yatras.
“My appeal is to hold the shobha yatras in streets and layouts where Hindus reside. If half an hour is not enough, stop your procession there for one hour. I will support this. Let us all worship Rama by not disturbing communal harmony,” he said.
In another tweet, he has condemned the vandalism by Hindu activists who destroyed watermelons of Muslim vendors at Nuggikeri Anjaneya Swami temple on Saturday. Posting a video of one of the Muslim vendor Nabi Sab to whom he donated ₹10,000, Mr. Kumaraswamy said: “Listen to the plight of this senior citizen. Let us join hands with him in this hour of crisis and help him set up his livelihood.”
