The High Court of Karnataka on Tuesday directed the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to conduct joint survey of roads in all the eight zones of Bengaluru along with agencies that are engaged in road cutting for providing various utility services to ascertain their condition.
The court also directed the BBMP to submit by April 19 the survey report and an action plan for repairing roads, damaged either due to road cutting by utility service providing agencies, or due to potholes.
The representatives of a private agency, M/s American Road Technology and Solutions (ARTS), which has been hired to fill up potholes in central business district (CBD) areas using the imported automated machine named, python, would also be part of the survey of roads as was suggested by the BBMP.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi and Justice S.R. Krishna Kumar said it would pass further order based on the outcome of the survey and the action plan to be submitted by the BBMP.
The Bench also asked the BBMP to examine whether the roads were cut by any of the agencies, authorised to provide utility services by taking permission for road cutting, without obtaining permission or any others without obtaining permission from the BBMP.
Meanwhile, the advocate for M/s ARTS has told the Bench that the company has the capacity to fill the potholes on large stretch of roads while pointing out that BBMP has at present has handed over only a few stretches in the CBD areas.
