The teen drama, which premiered in June 2019 and last aired a new episode in February 2022, has been plagued by production delays. HBO recently announced further postponements to allow the cast, including Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, and Sydney Sweeney, to pursue other opportunities.
Creator Sam Levinson had pitched a five-year time jump for Season 3 to address the aging of the cast, most of whom are now in their mid- to late 20s. However, proposed storylines involving Zendaya's character, Rue Bennett, were reportedly vetoed by HBO.
Variety reported that filming for the anticipated season is expected to commence in 2025, with a 25-week, six-episode shoot planned. The show has faced setbacks, including the departure of key cast members and the tragic loss of actor Angus Cloud and producer Kevin Turen.
Despite these challenges, the main cast members have been busy with various film projects. Zendaya, Elordi, and Sweeney have all taken on leading roles in blockbuster movies.
