A Hayley Williams playlist featured Macklemore and musicians who left Ed Sheeran's Loop Tour before her New York concert on Wednesday, 16 September. The tracks played before Williams took the stage at Forest Hills Stadium, shortly after several musicians announced their departures from Sheeran's tour. Williams has not publicly explained the playlist selection in the sources reviewed.

The dispute began after Macklemore made pro-Palestinian remarks while opening for Sheeran at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The rapper, whose real name is Benjamin Haggerty, performed on 4 and 5 September. During the appearances, he called for a 'Free Palestine' and performed his protest song 'Hind's Hall.'
