Geelong have changed their mind about challenging Gary Rohan's suspension for a sling tackle, accepting his one-game ban instead.
The Cats had indicated they would head to the AFL tribunal in an attempt to free the premiership player to face West Coast on Sunday, but then accepted the ban handed down by the match review officer.
Rohan found himself in hot water for a sling tackle on Hawthorn's Changkuoth Jiath in their Easter Monday win, hit with a rough conduct charge despite the Hawk not being injured.
His tackle was graded as medium impact, careless conduct and high contact as Jiath's head hit the turf.
Rohan was set to head to the tribunal before the AFL released a statement on Thursday afternoon.
"The Geelong Football Club has advised the AFL it has accepted the sanction against Gary Rohan as set out by the Match Review Officer and discontinued proceedings with the Tribunal hearing scheduled for Thursday afternoon," it read.
"Rohan will now miss the Geelong's match against the West Coast Eagles on Sunday at Adelaide Oval."
Later, the AFL's dangerous tackle rules will get another test amid their focus on concussion when Hawthorn's Will Day challenges a two-game ban.
Day was also charged with rough conduct from the Easter Monday clash, but was handed the two-game ban as impact was assessed as high.
