The devastating wildfires on the island of Maui, which is the second-largest island in Hawaii, have claimed the lives of at least 80 people and the death toll is expected to rise. The fires were fueled by high winds from Hurricane Dora.
Some wildfires continue but the fires in Maui County are roughly 85% contained. Analysts are estimating the damage from the wildfires will be costly -- between $8 and $10 billion dollars.

The governor of Hawaii has issued an Emergency Proclamation for the island and is discouraging any travel to the island that is not essential. Vacationers that have plans to travel there and haven’t left yet are advised to reschedule their travel. Tourists that are currently on the island are being asked to leave the island.
As the community works together and officials look into the emergency response, Hawaiian Airlines (HA) -) is doing its part to help those trying to leave the island. The airline is offering $19 flights from Maui to Honolulu until Monday.
"We continue to operate flights to and from Maui’s Kahului Airport (OGG) and have added extra flights to focus on bringing guests out of Maui," the company said on its website."
"Seats remain available today through Monday, August 14, 2023 for $19 to facilitate urgent travel out of Maui. We encourage you to book online as our Reservations line services guests with waivers and refunds. Additionally, we are continuing to coordinate with the state, county and non-profits to transport first responders, equipment and supplies to Maui."
Hawaiian Airlines will continue to offer its regularly scheduled flights, but there could be some disruptions due to supporting essential travel needs in Maui.
