'Having three Prime Minister in as many months has left this country on its knees'

When Rishi Sunak became the fifth prime minister in six years last week, he did so without any opposition and without a single vote from the electorate.

A default figure in No10, who just weeks earlier had less support from his own party than a woman who, in her 49 days in office, crashed the economy and plunged the country into chaos.

We are a nation in turmoil with those who can least afford it paying the price for 12 years of Tory failure.

It does not matter which of them has the job, collectively the Conservatives have proved time and again that their priorities lie not with the people of this country, who are facing the biggest financial crisis in decades, but with their own party and the deep pockets of those closest to them.

A revolving door at Downing Street, which recycles former Cabinet ministers who were at the very heart of previously disastrous regimes, will not wash.

We can see from recent polling that the country’s desire for a general election will turn even the fiercest Tory strongholds red. People have had enough.

Enough of a government that thinks breaking the ministerial code is an honest mistake that can be forgiven and forgotten in less than a week.

Enough of a government that has failed to properly fund our NHS and our schools but has made sure there is enough money for bankers to still get their obscene bonuses.

Enough of a government that has left millions bringing up their families in poverty, struggling to afford food and bills whilst ensuring tax cuts for the wealthiest.

My constituents in Swansea East certainly agree, if my inbox is anything to go by. The emails are relentless. “The Government no longer has public support.”

“How much more can the Tories drag us under.”

“It’s a circus.”

And seeing the new Prime Minster standing outside Downing Street last week with more empty promises made my blood boil.

I have families self-referring for hampers this Christmas because they do not know where else to turn.

The Government has no mandate and no integrity. They have run out of ideas and run out of credible options to sit on their frontbench. It looks like a Who’s Who from former failed administrations.

Britain deserves better. The public have the right to a proper say in the country’s future – continued chaos under Rishi Sunak or a real fresh start with Keir Starmer and Labour.

A party that puts the people before itself.

A party that is committed to sorting out the mess that others have made and growing the economy for working people.

A party that is ready and waiting to rebuild Britain.

I have been an MP for seven years and I have been a member of Labour for much longer.

My support and my belief in our party has not once faltered – but I can honestly say that I have never felt prouder to be a part of it than I do right now with Keir at the helm.

Everywhere I go, I hear the same message loud and clear. We need change. We need a general election. We need a Labour government.
