KOCHI: Indian women’s cricket team’s latest entrant Minnu Mani’s tale is a perfect recipe for a Bollywood script. A little girl who dreamt big from her modest home in the tribal hamlet of Choyimoola in Wayanad district of Kerala, Minnu faced several obstacles to pursue her ambition. But her passion for the game helped Minnu overcome those impediments. And now she is now on the verge of realizing her goal of playing for the country.
The 24-year-old admits that she was pleasantly surprised when she saw her name featuring in the Indian T20I squad for the Bangladesh tour on the BCCI website late on Sunday night. “I was not expecting a national call-up. There was a one-month camp for India hopefuls at National Cricket Academy (NCA) from May 15. I think my fitness and work ethics there may have impressed them. Also, I had a very good domestic season last year. All those factors contributed to my selection. Donning the Indian Blue jersey is something that I have been visualizing from my childhood and I am glad I will be able to realize it now,” Minnu told TOI.
