Haven rules people with covid have to cancel holiday despite law change

The law no longer requires those who catch coronavirus to self-isolate but that doesn't mean it's plain sailing if you've got a holiday booked.

While you’re no longer legally required to self-isolate if you have Covid-19, government and NHS advice is that you should try to stay at home and away from others to avoid passing on the virus. Despite the rule change coronavirus rates are increasing and with half-term and the Easter holidays approaching many will be asking what they should do if they get sick and have a holiday booked.

Holidays for 2022 are back on following a drop in all Covid-19 restrictions in the UK, however many may still be opting for a UK staycation at popular holiday parks including the likes of Haven, Butlins, Center Parcs and more. But what happens if you get coronavirus ahead of your booking, will you have to cancel your trip even though you legally don't have to self-isolate with the virus?

Haven says they understand the questions being raised by holidaymakers and guests who may be heading out on a holiday as the Easter break approaches.

The holiday park operator has said the safety and security of Haven's guests remains their number one priority and therefore they will constantly review measures in line with both Government and public health guidance.

Brits who have a holiday booked with Haven and contract coronavirus ahead of, or near to, their trip date will need to either cancel or rearrange.

A Haven spokesperson said: "Whilst there is no legal requirement to self-isolate, public health advice is those who have Covid or are displaying symptoms should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. Whilst this advice remains in place Haven offers its Covid Money Back Guarantee giving guests peace of mind that should they contract Covid-19 or have symptoms they are able to move or cancel their break."

Haven's Covid Money Back Guarantee covers guests who are unable to travel due to sickness or isolation. In order to get the cover though guests must complete the form here between 28 days and 3 days prior to arrival.

Haven also say cleanliness and hygiene will remain a key focus, and will continue to follow government advice and legislation in relation to local restrictions and advise guests to familiarise themselves with any restrictions before travel as they may differ from where they live.

We approached Haven to ask what would happen if guests contract coronavirus during their stay or within less than three days of the Covid Money Back Guarantee cover. Haven are yet to respond.
