Have A Phat Ass? Research Says You Might Also Have Autism Or ADHD

adhd-booty

Got a big ass? Turns out, you might also have autism or ADHD.

This isn’t some silly viral TikTok theory that’s not been fact checked. This is science, baby.

Research suggests that people with autism and ADHD are more likely to have a bigger-looking butt. So if you’re an atypical baddie, go take a look in the mirror to see if the data rings true.

However, this isn’t about body shape. It’s all in the posture, which is why I said bigger-looking, not bigger.

Not quite, but kinda…? (Image: Nickelodeon)

The big booty autism/ADHD result is often linked to what’s called an anterior pelvic tilt, which is common in children with either condition. With an anterior pelvic tilt, instead of having a neutral spine, the pelvis tilts forward and the lower back curves more than usual. The result is a butt that sticks out more than what’s considered normal, and a belly that protrudes forward. Some people call it a “duck butt” — Daffy would be so proud.

And since autism and ADHD share a lot of similar traits, like hyper-focus on intense interests, sensory differences and social challenges, it’s not a surprise that both of them also come with a voluptuous toosh. It’s estimated that one in 100 Australians have autism, while one in 20 Australians have ADHD. That’s a lot of dump trucks across Australia, just sayin’.

You don’t have to have either neuro-developmental disability to develop an anterior pelvic tilt, but it’s most common in children with either ADHD or autism. This is because these children often have low muscle tone, which means the core and glutes are too weak to keep the pelvis in proper alignment.

An anterior pelvic tilt can be further emphasised by toe walking, as well as sitting down for long periods of time. So if you work an office job, you might wanna get a standing desk ASAP.

While studying children with autism’s gait, researchers used 3D motion analysis to compare walking patterns amongst school-aged children. In their research, they found that autistic children tend to walk with an anterior pelvic tilt more than their peers. Their hips were bent forward more than what’s considered to be normal, and their ankles did not push off the ground as strongly as neurotypical children.

Sure, an anterior pelvic tilt will give you a bigger-looking booty, but with the weight of carrying a dump truck also comes potential back, hip and knee pain. To help combat this, you can do exercises that help open and strengthen your hip flexors and glutes. Think planks, leg lifts, glute bridges, and a whole lot of stretching.

Hey, if one of your New Year’s Resolutions is to hit the gym more often, now you’ve got another reason to.

Now, I’m not saying this gives you the right to self-diagnose yourself with ADHD or autism. But if you’ve got a big booty, a pelvic tilt, and have noticed some other traits you think might point to having either, go see your GP.
