Easter is one of the principal holidays on the calendar and it's a time when parents need to keep the children entertained during the two week holidays.
With the Easter weekend soon approaching, families right here across the North East will no doubt be looking to do something special with their children, to commemorate the annual celebrations.
And from Easter Egg hunts, to traditional rolling competitions - there's plenty of fun to be had for the holiday in sunny Sunderland.

Here's what's on, where it is and how much it will cost you.
Active Sunderland Easter Family Fun - April 14 at Herrington Country Park
Families can look forward to an egg-stra special day out when Active Sunderland Easter Family Fun takes place at Herrington Country Park.
With a focus on making families healthy and happy, the event on Thursday April 14, will also feature:
- Penshaw Bowl, the traditional egg rolling competition
- SAFC Foundation of Light’s inflatable speed cage
- Coach led athletics activities
- Change 4 Life team delivering traditional family games (sack races, egg and spoon race)
- Character led story walks which will take place at set times throughout the event
- Easter themed arts and crafts
All activities are free. Catering will also be available on the site.
The much-loved Penshaw Bowl egg rolling competition is open to all children aged nine and under. To take part children must be pre-registered for the egg roll here.
There they will be asked to choose from 12pm or 2pm time slots.
Dino Egg Hunt - April 5-22 at Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens
Those in search of a good old fashioned Easter Egg hunt can find it right on their doorstep at the Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens within the city centre. Participants can follow a secret trail to find dinosaur eggs and babies, and can even win a coveted themed prize should they be successful in their search.
Trails cost £2.50 per person, and can be bought on site from the Museum Shop.
Spring trail and activities - April 2-30 with Sunderland BID
Alternatively, Sunderland BID are also hosting their very own Easter trail which is completely free of charge. During the trail, those in completing are asked to seek out a range of spring characters across key locations of the city centre using augmented reality on mobile devices.
As well as the virtual figures, competitors are also encouraged to seek out six giant eggs which will be littered across a number of city retailers. The trail itself can be found on the Sunderland Experience app via the android or app store, and will also unlock a range of special offers and discounts to be claimed across Wearside.
The BID are also hosting a variety of Easter-themed workshops for children and youngsters alike, which are guaranteed to keep little ones happy throughout the annual festivities. Pop Recs on High Street West will be taking part from 10am through until 1pm on April 23, with Betsy Jenny Wellbeing Cafe on Bridge Street also running activities on April 12 and 21 at the same times.
Geek Retreat on John Street will also be running classes on April 14 and April 19 from 11am until 2pm.
