Haunted Glasgow pub home to 'green lady' as paranormal investigators spot spirit

A Glasgow pub which has a history of horrifying discoveries is yet again under the gaze of paranormal investigators who claim to have captured a photo of a spirit which supposedly haunts the venue.

The Scotia Bar on Stockwell Street is no stranger to ghostly sightings and it appears to have attracted some paranormal activity yet again.

Established in 1792, it's said to be the oldest public house in the city. Owing to its age, the pub also has a reputation for being haunted by a ghost known as the Green Lady, the Record reports.

Visitors who have seen the mysterious spirit say she is a barmaid wearing a green velvet dress who walks around the historic pub.

The elusive apparition has now reportedly been caught 'smiling' on camera by spirit hunters Anthony Douglas, 61, Richard Morrison, 43, and Ronan O Grady, 50, from Paranormal Supernatural Investigations Ireland.

Co-founder Anthony was walking around Glasgow on March 5 when he was drawn inside the pub while passing by. Having an "overwhelming urge" to go in and sit down, his attention was suddenly drawn to two parasols that concealed a sign about paranormal activity and the Green Lady.

He immediately started to take pictures of the area and said he was amazed how fast the Green Lady "made herself known to him." The image that the team claims is of the Green Lady was captured at 7pm.

Richard from Paranormal Supernatural Investigations Ireland said: "On this preliminary investigation, after taking a few pictures, we captured an unbelievable shot in a green hue which seemingly shows a woman smiling as if to say 'Here I am.'

The team said they showed the owner of the pub who was 'flabbergasted' by the image of the Green Lady.

"After viewing the image directly after it was captured, the proprietor was flabbergasted and exclaimed that in all her years there had never seen an image like it," Richard added.

"'Wow', she said and showed it to another member of staff. Both were aghast at the female resemblance in the image. We plan to travel back to The Scotia Bar to carry out a full investigation to see if we can support the paranormal claims that have been made about here."

With such a long history, the Green Lady isn't the only spirit said to haunt the pub. It has had more than its fair share of ghosts that have been spotted by staff and customers over the years, including a former manager who hanged himself in the cellar and a prostitute named 'Annie' who was contacted by a local ghosthunter group in 2007.

More information about The Scotia Bar can be found on the pub's website.
