West Ham United manager David Moyes admits he is “hating every minute” of the Hammers’ current form after five straight Premier League defeats.
The Hammers find themselves 17th in the Premier League standings after five straight defeats in England’s top-flight since the end of October, losing to Manchester United, Crystal Palace, Leicester City, Arsenal and Brentford in their last five matches; their worst league run since April 2017.
For the Hammers, it feels like uncharted territory based on the last two seasons, posting sixth and seventh placed finishes in their previous two campaigns respectively. That run has seen them finish in the semi-finals of the Europa League last term and already as far as the last 16 of this season’s Europa Conference League.

Domestically, this season has been well below hoped so far, especially considering the club spent initial fees of around £160m on their eight summer signings this term.
Throughout this run, while Moyes has been frustrated with the form that has seen them closer to the Championship than hopes of European football, he has largely been calm despite the constantly growing pressure on him.
With well over 1,000 games as a manager, Moyes is counting on his experience to get him and his players through their current rough patch, but inside, he admits he is hating every minute and wants his players to understand the hurt he is battling.
“I want to tell you, underneath I am really emotional and passionate and wanting to get a result,” said Moyes.
“I am hating every minute of this because I have lost five games. I am hating every bit and the players need to know that too.
“Yes, I want to try and show my experience at times but don’t let it fool you for what I am really feeling underneath.”
For the players, it is largely a new experience, with the current squad being severely overhauled from the one Moyes first inherited upon the start of his second spell three years ago.
Despite Friday’s 2-0 home loss to Brentford, Moyes was positive about his side’s performance but has said that he will be the first to tell his players when they have not met the standards expected of them.
“I would hope they do [understand how much Moyes hates it]. I want them to recognise that,” Moyes added. “I have to say that I only gave them positives for their performance in midweek, I thought they played really well.
“Sometimes what players want is for you to be honest. If they play well I would tell them. If they played rubbish and not played well, I would tell them that as well.
“Most people in life want to be told the truth. In midweek, the players played well and I don’t know if I want to say they deserved more out of it, but I would say they played better and we didn’t just get things on the night.”
