Has The Flash movie been cancelled after Ezra Miller’s multiple controversies?

Ezra Miller rose to prominence when they joined the cast of the 2017 misfire Justice League, taking on the role of the world’s fastest man, The Flash.

Since then, they starred in the vastly superior re-edit, Zack Snyder’s Justice League and now they are set to receive their own solo outing, The Flash.

The film has been in development hell for years, long before Ezra claimed the title role, but now the star themselves is causing problems will production.

The actor, who is celebrating their 30th birthday today, made headlines in 2020 when a video surfaced online that appeared to show them choking a woman outside a bar.

Speaking to Variety, a source later said that the incident was "a serious altercation at the bar," and that Ezra was escorted off the premises as a result.

No charges were made and two years later the woman from the clip shared her side of the story with the outlet.

She said her conversation with Ezra about getting into a fight was meant as a "joke."

The woman said her friend appeared to escalate the situation when he told Ezra that he heard the star wanted to avoid a fight.

"My friend didn't have to say that," she explained. Adding: "It was just a joke, obviously — but [Ezra] took that literally and got super mad and came running outside."

In 2022, they have been arrested three times and even fled for a while, all when Warner Brothers were just ramping up the marketing for The Flash.

It also comes just as the studio cancelled Batgirl, leaving outsiders to look into the WB’s studios and wonder what exactly is going on.

Here is everything you need to know about the future of The Flash and Ezra's controversies.

Has The Flash been cancelled?

Despite Batgirl being shelved (even though the film was supposedly complete) The Flash is still on track for release.

It is scheduled for a June 23, 2023 premiere date, with Warner Brothers banking that it will be a major hit for the studio.

The film is another multiverse centric story, which is all the craze now in superhero-land.

Three Barry Allen’s (the alter ego of The Flash) can be seen in the trailer, along with both Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck set to reprise their Batman roles from the 1989 film and Justice League, respectively.

Regardless, a source claimed to Rolling Stone that even before the recent allegations, they had “frequent meltdowns” during filming.

However, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter, despite the controversies surrounding the film, it has done remarkable well in test screenings.

The outlet said the film has been received as one of DC’s best works, writing: “It has been receiving some of the highest scores at test screenings since Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight movies."

What happened to Ezra Miller?

After Ezra’s alleged 2020 choking incident, they kicked off 2022 with a bizarre cryptic message to the Ku Klux Klan.

On January 27, they uploaded an Instagram video, saying: "Look, if y'all want to die, I suggest just killing yourselves with your own guns. OK?"

"Otherwise, keep doing exactly what you're doing right now — and you know what I am talking about — then, you know, we'll do it for you, if that's really what you want. Talk to you soon, OK. Bye."

Ezra has since deactivated their Instagram account.

Two months later, in March, Ezra was charged with disorderly conduct and harassment regarding two alleged incidents at a karaoke bar in Hawaii.

According to the Hawaii Police Department: "Miller began yelling obscenities and at one point grabbed the microphone from a 23-year-old woman singing karaoke and later lunged at a 32-year-old man playing darts."

"The bar owner asked Miller to calm down several times."

Ezra pleaded no contest to the disorderly charge via Zoom and the judge ordered them to pay a $500 fine.

In April, Ezra was arrested on a second-degree assault charge.

Hawaiian police stated: "During the course of their investigation, police determined that the individual, later identified as Ezra Miller, became irate after being asked to leave and reportedly threw a chair, striking a 26-year-old female on the forehead, resulting in an approximate half-inch cut.”

Ezra addressed their behaviour in a statement, saying: "Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment.

"I want to apologize to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behaviour. I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe and productive stage in my life."
