10 Officially Pulls The Plug On I’m A Celeb As Robert Irwin And Julia Morris Say Their Goodbyes

I'm A Celebrity

Network Ten has officially confirmed it will be putting its beloved and bonkers series I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! to “rest”, following speculation that it had been axed.

“We have made the decision to rest I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! in 2027 as we focus on offering our audience a range of content on all platforms,” a Ten spokesperson said. “We look forward to working with [current hosts] Julia Morris and Robert Irwin on other projects.”

In a statement, Irwin said: “I want to express what an absolute privilege it has been to work on this show for the past three seasons. I grew up watching this show as so many Aussies do, so to be part of the fantastic team that make this series a reality felt like a dream come true. We have had the honour of sharing incredible stories and create a platform to shine a light on amazing charities that our celebrities have supported along the way. And to do it all alongside my co-host, and friend, Julia Morris, made it a truly life-changing experience that I will remember for the rest of my life.”

Long-running co-host Morris shared the following statement, praising the network and crew for 12 years of glorious television: “I’m A Celebrity and our whole jungle family who make this show have made it the best working experience of my lifetime. I have loved every moment and will be forever grateful to [network president Beverley McGarvey] and the whole team at Network Ten for not only believing in this show but nurturing it for 12 years. And to our jungle family watching from home, we love you.”

Rumours first kicked off last week when TV Blackbox reported parent company Paramount had scrapped the long-running reality series, with production company ITV hustling to shop the format around to rival networks in the hopes of keeping it alive.

An ITV source told the Sydney Morning Herald: “Ten has been running the ruler over I’m a Celeb for months on end. They’ve been looking at every possible option to make it stack up financially, but in the end it’ll come down to whether or not they can justify the cost.”

Meanwhile another ITV source claimed Ten’s exclusivity period for I’m a Celebrity lapsed in April, meaning the company is now able to sell the series to other networks, echoing TV Blackbox’s tea.

“But this has happened before,” the source said. “The exclusivity period would expire and then, a few months later, usually around June or July, Ten would sign on for another year. And if Ten decides not to pick it up for 2027, we’re pretty confident that Seven or Nine will be interested.”

A spokesperson for Network Ten later shared that its upcoming slate of television was still up in the air.

“Decisions regarding the 2027 program schedule including I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! will be made in the coming weeks,” the spokesperson told PEDESTRIAN.TV, stressing that decisions like this are routine at this stage of the year ahead of each new season of the hit reality series.

But alas, it appears the rumours were true!

TV Blackbox claimed that the move could be related to the show’s declining ratings, with viewership dropping sharply after a strong 2026 premiere of 925,000 national viewers, reportedly due to the lack of audience participation in evictions and challenges. The finale ultimately drew 571,000 viewers, down from 651,000 in 2025.

The rumoured move marks yet another major shake-up in Australia’s struggling free-to-air TV landscape, as networks continue tightening budgets and reassessing big-ticket reality formats.

The series originally debuted in 2015 and quickly became one of Channel Ten’s flagship entertainment programs, helping bolster the careers of washed-up celebs while simultaneously traumatising them with snakes, spiders and whatever horrifying animal organ producers could dig up that season.

The jungle-based reality show became a staple of Aussie screens thanks to its chaotic challenges, bizarre tucker trials and meme-worthy celebrity moments.

It has starred a host of local and international talent, including the late Shane Warne, Abbie Chatfield, Chrissie Swan, Grant Denyer and Cyrell Paule, to name just a few.

The news follows reports that the series had been gearing up for an all-star season featuring some of the aforementioned celebs, so this unfortunate update comes as quite a surprise.

At this stage, it’s unclear whether another broadcaster or streaming platform will swoop in to save the franchise, but given the show’s loyal audience and enduring popularity, don’t rule out a resurrection just yet.
