The past few weeks have seen scenes of chaos at Manchester Airport. Passengers have been stuck in crowded terminals, luggage has gone missing, and hundreds of flights have been delayed, or even cancelled.
Even the police have had to become involved, rescuing passengers "abandoned" on a flight which never took off, or telling other holidaymakers that their break has been cancelled. Manchester Airport has blamed staff shortages in the TUI and Swissport operations, a problem which they say is blighting the travel industry more widely.
This lack of staff is largely attributable to Covid-19. But some have suggested Brexit has compounded the problem, because many European staff left the aviation industry and the UK during the Covid outbreak and have not come back.
