Haryana: Two stone crushing units in Nuh fined Rs 37 lakh

Gurugram: The mining department on Friday imposed a penalty of over Rs 37 lakh on two stone crushing units in Nuh, after several irregularities were found during an inspection drive by the district task force. The irregularities were mostly related to stock and presence of illegally mined raw materials, officials said. “A total fine of Rs 37.46 lakh was imposed on the two crushing units located in Tauru village of Nuh for several irregularities,” a mining officer told TOI.

The district task force in Nuh was constituted by deputy commissioner Ajay Kumar on July 21 after DSP Surender Singh was allegedly crushed to death by a dumper. Illegal mining of the Aravalis continues in Nuh despite a Supreme Court ban in 2009. “On July 21 too, in Taoru village, we carried out a drive and found irregularities in 10 stone crushing units. A total of Rs 15,39,800 in fines were recovered from their owners,” said Anil Atwal, the mining officer of Nuh.

In fact, according to the department’s data, a total of 136 vehicles involved in illegal mining activities have been seized in the district so far this month. Prior to this, on July 11, a task force comprising officials of the state pollution control board and the forest and mining departments was formed to crack down on quarrying activities in the Aravalis of Gurgaon, Faridabad and Nuh.

That was after the NGT on May 23 ordered the pollution control board and the district administrations of Faridabad, Gurgaon and Nuh to take steps to prevent mining in the Aravalis and submit a report in three months.
