Pop star Harry Styles, 28, has released his latest music video for the song Music for a Sushi Restaurant, and it is fair to say his fans have lost their minds.

Music for a Sushi Restaurant is the first song, and the third single, from Styles’ third album, Harry’s House, which was released in May.

The video premiered on October 27 and, in an interview with Apple Music, Styles explained the idea came from a realisation he had while in quarantine for Covid-19.

“For a really long time, I was terrified of what my life was if I wasn’t up here doing music, on a show, doing something. And then you’re faced with a time when you can’t do that,” he said.

“I kind of stopped for a second and looked at what I turned to listen to and what I was watching and all that kind of stuff and was like, ‘What does it actually mean to make something? And what does it mean to me to make something as my job?’”

In the video, directed by rising star Aube Perrie, Harry goes shirtless with a long tentacled tail attached to his torso, as he lies in what appears to be the kitchen of a sushi restaurant. Behind him is a pile of dirty dishes, and the bearded star – tattoos on full display – looks pensively on, as he attempts to avoid becoming a portion of sushi on a plate.

In order to avoid such an unsavoury end, Harry goes through a series of challenges, including putting on a karaoke performance backed by a brass band, which is made up of a group of men wearing prawn heads.

Fans took to social media to share their jubilation but also confusion at the bizarre clip, joking: “If you watched Harry Styles’ music for a sushi restaurant music video you may be entitled to compensation.”

Others were more impressed, with one saying: “Music For a Sushi Restaurant is a brilliant music video, I’m not a HS stan, just a filmmaker and that was insanely shot and insanely scripted, I said what I said.”

Another said that they didn’t think they’d “ever recover” from the video.

Others were more impressed, saying they thought it was Harry’s best video ever.

Some fans simply couldn’t stop thinking about the video.

As well as channelling his inner merman in the video, Harry has also been doing a lot of acting this year.

He took on the lead role in Don’t Worry Darling – directed by his now girlfriend Olivia Wilde – as well as taking on a role in the recently released My Policemen with Emma Corrin.

The album, Harry’s House, has been nominated for a Mercury Prize.
