Harry Redknapp described Crystal Palace’s win against Southampton at Selhurst Park on Saturday as “a big result”.
The Eagles managed to distance themselves from the relegation zone at the weekend after Odsonne Edouard score the only goal against Saints in south London.
Palace climbed into the top-half of the table as a result and are now five points clear of the bottom three. Southampton meanwhile continue to teeter near the drop zone in 17th with just one point separating them from Leicester City.

Former Portsmouth and Southampton boss Redknapp admired Palace’s performance on Saturday and picked out one Eagles star for his Premier League team of the week. Goalscorer Edouard didn’t make the cut, but the man who provided the cross for the Frenchman to score from six yards out did.
“That was a big result for Palace,” Redknapp told BetVictor. “I thought they played well and had some nice passages of play.
“One player that caught my eye is Tyrick Mitchell. He was up and down the left-hand side all afternoon and got his assist for Edouard’s goal. Great to see.”
Mitchell was named amongst a back-four that included Newcastle United’s Kieran Trippier, Lisandro Martinez of Manchester United and Everton’s James Tarkowski, with Toffees teammate Jordan Pickford in goal.
Migeul Almiron of Newcastle, Wolves Ruben Neves and Tottenham’s Rodrigo Bentancur, were named in midfield after the trio got on the scoresheet for their respective clubs.
Crysencio Summervilla is named in the front three after 21-year-old scored the winner for Leeds United against Liverpool at Anfield. Newcastle’s Callum Wilson and Bournemouth striker Kieffer Moore also made the cut.
Harry Redknapp’s team of the week : Pickford (Everton); Trippier (Newcastle), Martinez (Man United), Tarkowski (Everton), Mitchell (Crystal Palace); Almiron (Newcastle), Neves (Wolves), Bentancur (Tottenham); Summerville (Leeds), Wilson (Newcastle), Moore (Bournemouth)
