Harry Redknapp backs milestone man Harry Kane to stay at Tottenham as contract talks loom

Harry Redknapp has backed Harry Kane to stay at Tottenham after the England captain broke the club’s goalscoring record.

The 29-year-old overtook the legendary Jimmy Greaves on 267 Spurs goals by striking the winner during Sunday’s huge win over Manchester City.

City, of course, have previously tried to sign Kane, who is only under contract for another 18 months.

Kane is believed to be open to extending his deal with his boyhood club, provided certain conditions are met.

The striker last month confirmed he would hold talks with Spurs “over the coming months” and again reiterated his ambition to win trophies in north London.

Kane is likely to want assurances that the club remains upwardly mobile and ambitious before extending his contract ahead of talks.

Still, Redknapp, speaking to Reece Mennie on his podcast believes the Spurs star will stay at the club no matter what.

Speaking on his podcast, the former Tottenham manager said: “He can walk in to any team, but does he need to? The money he’s on at Spurs is more than he can ever spend, he’s earning a fortune and quite rightly so.

“I think he’s moving house or building a new house, so his life is probably great. He loves his golf and that’s his hobby now, getting a game of golf in when he can.

“I can’t see him wanting to move away. I think he’ll stay.”
