Our favorite magical trio is making a comeback—sans J.K Rowling.
Decades ago, the world was introduced to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. And now, after a stunning eight-film run, two spinoff movies, and even a Broadway stint—the stars are ready to return to Hogwarts to celebrate the 20th anniversary.
Premiering January 1 on HBO Max, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint are set to return for the “Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts” special.
“For the first time ever, the legendary cast returns to where the magic started. Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: #ReturnToHogwarts, streaming New Year’s Day, only on HBO Max,” read the streaming platform’s tweet.

It’s hard to believe that it’s been so long since the franchise's first film, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone was released but the special is sure to mean a lot to dedicated fans.
The reunion will also include director Chris Columbus and alums Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs, Gary Oldman, Imelda Staunton, Tom Felton, James Phelps, Oliver Phelps, Mark Williams, Bonnie Wright, Alfred Enoch, Matthew Lewis, Evanna Lynch, and Ian Hart.
Despite the impressive lineup of stars planning to return, the author and creator of Harry Potter, J.K Rowling is not mentioned.
Rowling has made countless anti-trans comments, and some of the Harry Potter stars have made it clear that they do not share her views in the past. Still, it comes as somewhat of a surprise that Rowling is seemingly not involved in the upcoming special.
